We are all very aware of the ongoing changing conditions and information coming out regarding the COVID19 virus and schools’ responses. Small and large school districts across the state and nation are closing down temporarily in order to protect their students and prevent the spread of this disease.
For us at Western Sierra Charter Schools the health and safety of our students, families and staff are our very highest priority. As primarily home-based school programs, we are better situated than many other schools and districts to make changes in how we instruct and interact with students.
We believe, at this time, it is prudent to temporarily discontinue all onsite classes. This onsite class cancellation will be effective immediately and continue through April 13. This means that:
·MHS enrichment classes cancelled with no online option
·All of the vendor (exercise) classes cancelled
·GHS classes change to online format beginning the week of 3/23
·MHS middle school (6th – 8th grade) math classes change to online format also beginning the week of 3/23
·Due to the regional ROV competition in May, ROV for both schools may continue with pool time
*We will be providing further information next week for students on how to access their classes online.
At this time our school buildings will remain open and office staff will be available for your assistance and to answer your questions.
Your Advising Teacher will continue to report to work during this time.
Your Advising Meetings may continue to be at school and in person or at distance by phone. Please work with your Advising Teacher to determine how best to do those meetings.
If your student needs or desires the meals we provide through our vending machine you are welcome to come to the school building to continue to receive your meals.
To be clear, we are not cancelling or closing school. We are an independent study school.
School is still on and students still need to be working on their classes on calendared school days and filling out their attendance forms.
** We sent out the following yesterday to our families regarding extracurricular activities:
As of March 12, 2020, extra-curricular events will be cancelled through April 13 at which time we will reevaluate the situation. These events include but are not limited to:
Dances
Field trips
Academic contests***
We will continue to keep you updated as we receive new information.
We understand and are very sorry for the disruption that these changes cause.
Thank you for choosing to school with WSCS and for your patience during this challenging time.
Please feel free to reach out to us if you have any questions.
Thank you,
Michael Cox
